09/28/10: North Springs 14 – Pope 4 – The North Springs team won its first game in its 2-year history in the first round of the state tournament, beating Pope 14-4. The team started off the game firing off shots and took a quick 3-0 lead. For a team that is not used to having a lead, no one was sure how the players were going to handle it. They stayed confident, but never so much so that they let down their game. They have been working all year on different parts of water polo: setting up on offense, good passes, quick transitions, and for the first time, they were able to put it all together in the same game for all 4 quarters.

Mick Baker was in goal the entire game, and he made many great saves against some great shooters from Pope. Charlie Sanders and Barak Zitron both scored 4 goals, while Callum Lever scored 2, and Spencer Middleton, Jelani Watkins, Ben Turner, and Josh Stovall each added 1.

North Springs faces Peachtree City in the next round on Wednesday night at Dynamo.

Down 6 – 4 at the start of the 4th period and having been held scoreless in the 3rd, Norcross outscored Pace 4-0 in the 4th to win. The game was tough with numerous fouls being called on Norcross, most related to the shallow pool and touching the bottom. 08/24/10: St. Pius A 17 – GAC A 12 – Spartans Water Polo team (GAC A) falls short, losing 17 – 12 against St. Pius A in a very well played game against a state championship caliber team. Despite being down early, GAC fought back in the 2nd quarter to trail 10-2 at the half. This was a good opportunity for the Spartans to measure themselves against one of the better teams in the state and they showed great progress in only their second year.

With improved play and hard swimming in the second half, GAC closed the gap, scoring 4 goals in the last two minutes of the game. With Max Musser initiating the offense, the scoring was lead by Chris McCarter (6 goals), Jonathan Edwards (4 goals) and Kevin Roughgarden (2 goals).

08/24/10: Wildcat WPC 10 – Collins Hill B 9 – Wildcat WPC pulled off a surprising victory today over a strong and confident Collins Hill B team. It was a hard fought game as Collins Hill jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at the half. But Wildcat WPC never gave up as they stormed back in the second half to pull the come from behind victory 10-9. Everyone played incredibly well today especially Wildcat WPC players, freshman Ryan Agnew, junior Alex Komitor, and senior Park Seagraves. This game was back and forth in the fourth quarter and there is a monumental rematch scheduled between these two teams in the first round of the Powerbar Tournament this coming saturday.

08/21/10: PTC WPC 12 – Wildcat WPC 9 – PTC WPC used its strength and speed to defeat Wildcat WPC today. Both teams put in great efforts, but a special Wildcat good job goes out to Sophomore Kevin Pluckter for playing the entire game in goal.

08/21/10: Pope 13 – North Springs 5 – North Springs scored their first goals of the season today against Pope, with special congrats going to North Springs athlete, Barak Zitron who scored 3 goals in his second game ever. Mick Baker, also from North Springs, played all four quarters in goal. With only one sub, the Spartans played tough against a more experienced (and more rested) team, though coming up short in the end.

Norcross vs. GAC A

Norcross had balanced scoring while 5 of GAC’s 7 goals in regulation were scored by Chris McCarter.

The Blue Devils take on Pace Academy next Wednesday at 4pm.

08/18/10: Wildcat WPC 9 – Harrison 4 – Wildcat WPC won its first game of the season behind strong performances by Senior Park Seagraves, Junior Robert Hobbs, and Junior Cody Masters. Several first year players had great debuts in the Wildcat white and blue including Freshmen Ryan Agnew, Charlie Carter, and William Sweitzer. The final score of the game was Wildcat WPC 9, Harrison 4.

08/14/10: Collins Hill A 14 – Norcross 0 – Welcome Norcross the to the GHSWPA! In their first league game in program history, Norcross found themselves up against stout competitor Collins Hill A, and encountered a stifling, experienced defense in addition to an in-shape spread offense. Several of the Eagles (Collins Hill) players are in their 5th season (counting Spring and Fall play). In fact, Norcross held the Eagles to a 1-0 lead until early in the 2nd quarter.

However, the experienced Eagles scored five goals in the second quarter — one each for Branford Rembert, Will Callander and Jerry Davis, and a pair from Michael Britt, to pull away. The third quarter saw goals from Nasim Talbi and Michael Britt to put the Eagles up 9 – 0. In the final quarter, when conditioning really pays off, the Eagles enjoyed solo goals from Johnny Rocquet, Kyle Crandall, Will Callander, Jerry Davis and Michael Britt. For the game, Michael Britt was the top scorer, banging in 6 goals from the hole.

Kudos to the Eagle’s (sorta rookie) goalies who kept all shots in front of the goal line. Brad Miller (graduated All-Star/MVP goalie) was a tough act to follow and the Collins Hill young men stepped up. The Eagles also leveraged their summer workouts and won all four sprints.

A hearty thanks to all those who worked the game. The 2010 league opener was definitely a success.
